Atkins Diet Low Carb Plan

Atkins Diet Plan stresses a controlled low carb plan approach that allows up to two thirds of total daily calories to come from animal fats and protein.

The Atkins low carb plan is an amazingly effective weight loss program despite the high calorie consumption because severely restricting carbohydrates intake in the Atkins low carb program effectively induce a state of Atkins ketosis to help the body burned excess body fats.

During Atkins ketosis the body fats and proteins are metabolized to produce energy.  Ketosis fat burning process effectively results in body fats being broken down into fatty acids and used as body fuel.

The body in a state of ketosis is the most efficient way of burning excess stored body fats to help us achieve a healthy and fast weight loss.

Atkins Diet Low Carb PlanIn a study conducted with two groups – a controlled low carb diet group, and a low fat diet group - the controlled low carb diet group was allowed to eat as many calories of low carb food as they wanted in the form of meat, fish, fowl and cheese, two salads a day, but minimal other carbs

The low fat diet group, on the other hand, ate fat free dairy products, whole grains, low fat meats, poultry and fish and many fruits and vegetables. They were limited to 1,100 calories a day, while the controlled low carb diet group consumed an average of 1,830 calories of low carb food a day, which is 66% more than the low fat diet group's average. Yet, the controlled low carb diet group lost almost one pound more per week.

Teens in the controlled low carb diet group lost an average of 19 pounds during a 12-week period; low fat diet group lost on average 8.5 pounds. The controlled low carb diet group also showed a greater decrease in overall serum cholesterol levels and triglyceride levels were reduced by 52 percent, as compared to a 10 percent drop for the low fat diet group. High-density lipoprotein (HDL) or "good” cholesterol levels increased in the controlled low carb plan group and decreased in the low fat plan group.
