AtkinsDiet Plan Pre-maintenance - How to, Rules, and Objectives

AtkinsDiet plan weight loss program believes that reaching your ideal weight is not your ultimate goal. The real goal is to maintain that magic ideal weight number indefinitely. You now enter the third phase of AtkinsDiet  Plan –  AtkinsDiet Pre-maintenance Phase.

At this point, just as you reach your target weight loss goal, you must alter your weight loss strategy. This step towards AtkinsDiet  Plan – Lifetime Maintenance requires you to proceed so slowly that your weight loss is almost imperceptible. The focus now shifts to retaining your ideal weight for life, by creating the optimal atkinsdiet eating plan.

In AtkinsDiet Ongoing Weight Loss phase, adding more carbs and more variety to your atkinsdiet menu slows down weight loss. The AtkinsDiet Pre-maintenance phase deliberately slows down weight loss further by teaching you more about life long eating habits, while helping you lose those last few pounds.

In AtkinsDiet Pre-maintenance phase, your carbohydrate consumption is now increased, until you are losing less than a pound a week. The additional atkinsdiet food will provide increased nutrition and culinary enjoyment. Ideally, you should spend at least a month, and preferably two or three months, in this third phase of AtkinsDiet. During this time, you will both accustom yourself to your lifetime atkinsdiet eating plan and get a good indication of what it will be like.

The crucial difference between AtkinsDiet Pre-Maintenance and AtkinsDiet Lifetime Maintenance is that one is a training program; the other is the rest of your life. So, do not have any misguided ideas about skipping Pre-maintenance and going straight to Lifetime Maintenance.

AtkinsDiet Plan Pre-Maintenance phase is mandatory if permanent weight loss is to be achieved.

AtkinsDiet Pre-maintenance puts you in charge of what you eat. You learn the skills that allow you to take charge of your life. Increase your daily carb count by 10 grams each week, so long as you continue to lose weight.

By introducing new foods slowly, and increasing your carb grams gradually, your Critical Carbohydrate Level for Losing (CCLL) gradually goes up. As you continue to make 10-gram incremental additions, you will quickly reach a point where you will find that you are no longer losing weight. If you are at your desired weight, stay at that level for a month or so, before increasing your daily carb consumption by another 10 grams to see if you can consume that level without gaining. If weight gain occurs, drop back 10 grams and you should have established your Critical Carbohydrate Level for Maintenance (CCLM).

Slowing weight loss while still preserving the forward momentum of Pre-Maintenance does not always occur smoothly. If after an incremental increase, you are neither gaining weight nor losing it, and you are not yet at your goal weight, then you need to back down to the previous level. The line between gaining, maintaining and losing is a thin one and you may have to play with your Critical Carbohydrate Level for Losing (CCLL) and Critical Carbohydrate Level for Maintaining (CCLM), to understand what your body can handle. While it may take as long as three months to drop the last few pounds and clearly establish your CCLM, this leisurely pace is critical to your ultimate success. Continue to add new foods slowly and carefully. This is also crucial for inculcating good eating habits. This is the time when you will discover whether your metabolism can handle whole-grain bread, legumes, starchy vegetables, and other potential trouble foods. People with extremely low carb tolerance—meaning high metabolic resistance—will not be able to add many new foods and will find Pre-Maintenance Phase similar to Ongoing Weight Loss or even Induction.

 AtkinsDiet Plan Pre-Maintenance Phase Rules:

1.      Increase your daily carb intake by no more than 10 grams each week

2.      Add new atkinsdiet food one at a time.

3.      Eliminate new atkinsdiet food if it provokes weight gain, return of physical symptoms lost during Induction, increased appetite, cravings, or water retention.

4.      If you gain weight, drop back to the next lowest level of carb intake.

5.      Be sure to continue eating adequate amounts of fat and protein.

6.      Continue to take your vitamin and mineral supplements regularly
