Atkins Diet : Atkins Lifetime Maintenance - How to, Rules, and Objectives
Stick with the fourth and final phase of the Atkins Diet Weight Loss Approach and your weight problems are history—but digress, and you are headed for trouble.
The fourth and final phase of the Atkins Diet Weight Loss Approach - Atkins Diet Lifetime Maintenance, marks the end of your weight problems. But remember that all too often, people win the battle of weight loss only to lose the war of weight control.
To maintain your target ideal weight, you must know your metabolic needs. Depending on your metabolism, you can eat many of the foods you used to enjoy in moderation, with the exception of sugar. CCLM – your Critical Carbohydrate Level for Maintenance, which you found during Atkins Diet Pre-maintenance phase, tells you know how many carbs you can eat each day to maintain your weight. Stay around that number, and your weight should not fluctuate beyond a range of two or three pounds. Hormonal changes and other daily fluctuations in your body account for a small seesaw effect.
A key question to ask yourself here is, what level of carbohydrate consumption do you feel best on? That's a more rational goal than trying to find the highest number of carbs you can get away with. This may mean you actually stay slightly below your Critical Carbohydrate Level for Maintenance (CCLM).
For Atkins Diet Lifetime Maintenance of your ideal weight, follow these Eight Basic Atkins Diet Principles:
Be food aware - remember that fresh meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, nuts, seeds and occasional fruits and starches are the foods nature intended you to eat. Avoid harmful, packaged, and refined carbohydrate foods that harm your body system.
Be wary of sugar and corn syrup, white flour and cornstarch.
Individualize your personal eating plan. Try a variety of new foods using controlled low carbohydrate alternatives, that appeal and satisfy you. This prevents reverting to unhealthy eating habits of the past.
Continue your already established and effective program of vitanutrient supplementation.
Consume caffeine and alcohol only in moderation.
Remember that addictions can be managed only through abstinence.
Arrest any weight regain promptly and effectively by returning to the Atkins Diet Induction and Atkins Diet Ongoing Weight Loss phases, for as long as it takes to get back to your ideal weight.
Make exercise a regular part of your life.
